Sparta Boss won the inaugural Nebula Promotions Ballers at the Beach football tournament defeating Back Circle 4-2 Sunday at the Selena Beach Resort.
Sparta Boss had earned a spot in the final following semi-final and quarterfinal wins over West Front Road and Alexander Village respectively before Dennis Edwards led them to victory with a double in the fourth and 12th minutes.
He was supported by Devon Millington and Cleyon Forrester who netted in the first and 18th minutes respectively. On target for the losers with a brace was Jamal Adams in the 15th and 16th minute.
With the win, Sparta Boss walked away with the championship trophy and the $150,000 first prize while Back Circle collected the second place accolade and $50,000.
Millington opened the scoring for Sparta Boss in the final, lashing his effort down the centre of the goal after intercepting a poor pass from the Back Circle goalkeeper.
Another loose pass from the Back Circle ‘keeper would lead to the second goal scored by Edwards three minutes later.
The score line would then balloon to 3-0 as Edwards bagged his brace, slotting his first time right footed strike to the left hand corner, after receiving a lobbed past within the right side of the area from Sheldon Shepherd.
Adams would then pull one back for Back Circle in the 15th minute with a simple finish to the right side after receiving pass from Andy Duke. He would pull his side to within one goal, thumping his effort to the left side of the net one minute later.
However, that would be the closest Back Circle would get as Forrester sealed the win with a first time right footed shot into the left corner from the right side of the field, following a counterattack from their own half.
In the semi-final stage, Sparta Boss squeaked past Wes Front Road by a 1-0 score line while Back Circle came from two goals down to defeat Tiger Bay 4-2. In the earlier quarterfinal stage, Sparta Boss edged Alexander Village 1-0 whilst Back Circle needled Leopold Street by a 3-2 margin.
The final two quarterfinal matches saw West Front Road disposing of Albouystown by a 3-1 score and Tiger Bay brushing aside Broad Street 4-2.
