An attendant was on Monday refused bail after being charged with having an illegal gun and ammunition in an interior camp.
Elizabeth Winter, 21, of 46 New Silvercity, Linden pleaded not guilty to the charges read to her by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on September 25, at 14 Miles Backdam, Winter had in her possession a .22 revolver and five .22 live rounds of ammunition without a firearm licence. According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, police acted upon information received and conducted a search in a camp where Winter was at the time and the firearm was discovered under a mattress.
Attorney Kimberly Yearwood, who represented Winter, told the court that her client is not a flight risk, had no knowledge of the firearm, and had even cooperated with the police when they went to conduct the search.
Bail was refused based and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrates’ Court for October 9.
