The second suspect in the Parfaite Harmonie fire which claimed the life of Jason Munroe was not charged because the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) did not advise that a charge be laid against him.
D Division Commander Ian Amsterdam told Stabroek News yesterday that based on the statements taken from fire victim Zullina Callendar and Clifton Joseph called ‘Smiley,’ who was charged with Munroe’s murder during the investigation carried out by the police, enough evidence was not made out against the second suspect implicated by Callendar.
Meanwhile, three-year-old Princess Bobb, the youngest victim of the fire was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday.
Her15-year-old aunt, Shontel Callendar, however, is still a far way from being released from the hospital, following a surgery on Monday. According to Shontel’s mother, Amanda Daniels, doctors gave the teenager two more months before she can be released. Shontel’s back is badly burnt, Daniels said, adding that that was the reason for the surgery.
It was about 01:00 hrs on Monday, September 22 that neighbours heard what sounded like fighting followed by screams coming from the house. Soon afterwards they saw the house engulfed in flames and persons running from the building.
Munroe, who was there with his girlfriend Zullina along with Shontel and Bobb, was knocked unconscious during a fight with intruders and perished in the blaze.
