Transparency Institute Guyana Inc (TIGI) yesterday said it notes with interest the continuing and sometimes defamatory attacks on Dr Anand Goolsarran which have been published through anonymous and other letters in the Guyana Chronicle and the Guyana Times with regard to his recent resignation as president of the institute.
“TIGI wishes to reiterate that Dr Goolsarran’s resignation was not unexpected but was in keeping with a prior commitment to an assignment overseas; information that he provided well in advance at TIGI’s 2014 Annual General Meeting and expressly outlined in our press release published on September 2014,” it said in a press release.
Dr Goolsarran volunteered his time to TIGI and served admirably, the institute said. “We once again express our thanks to him and say to those who seek to malign him and TIGI that their energies may be better served in the struggle to end widespread corruption in our beautiful country,” the institute said.
According to the group, the perception of corruption remains high in Guyana with numerous corruption scandals while important legal bodies such as the Public Procurement Commission and the Integrity Commission are yet to be constituted and rendered functional. TIGI urges members of the public to remain focused on combating corruption and not to be distracted by ad hominen attacks against the institute and its directors by those who are opposed to its work. “We want a future that is corruption free,” the group said.
