With only 137 runs ahead and four wickets remaining in their second innings Essequibo resume play this morning facing the prospect of an outright defeat in their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter-County four-day match against Demerara at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
At the close of play yesterday Essequibo who made 263 all out in their first innings, were 101-6 batting a second time.
Ricardo Adams is unbeaten on 67.
Leg spinner Amir Khan (2-32) and Zaheer Mohamed (2-12) are the main wicket takers.
Earlier, Essequibo secured first innings points after they dismissed Demerara for 227 for a 36 runs lead.
Demerara, resuming on their overnight score of 60-2, lost night watchman Amir Khan for seven and skipper Vishal Singh for 17 as they slipped to 113-4. However, a fifth wicket stand of 52 runs between Rajendra Chandrika (52) and Christopher Barnwell (62) gave them hope of first innings points before they collapsed to 227 all out.
Left arm spinner Anthony Adams took 4-65 from 22 overs and Hemchand Persaud 4-57 from 17 overs.
