SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, CMC Police here have launched a hunt for two men accused of robbing former national football coach, Bertille St Claire at his home in Tobago on Tuesday night.
St.Claire, 72, who was beaten and bound, was taken to the Scarborough Regional Hospital for observation and subsequently released, Police reported.
He was accosted by two masked men, one of them believed to have been armed with a gun, as he entered his home around midnight.
The former school teacher was beaten, tied with a telephone cord and robbed of a quantity of jewellery including chains, identification bands and rings as well as alcoholic beverages.
St Claire became the first coach to lead an English speaking Caribbean country to a FIFA World Cup tournament when he led the Young Soca Warriors to the 1991 Portugal World Youth Cup.
He was also responsible for taking the T&T team to the semi-finals of the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup, its best-ever showing in that tournament.
