A Linden teen was yesterday charged with stealing over $70,000 worth of ice cream from his neighbour.
It is alleged that Preston Skeete, 18, of Central Amelia’s Ward, on September 27, at Lot 1102 Central Amelia’s Ward, stole 10 ½ gallon ice creams, eight 9.5 litres containers of ice cream, three two-pint buckets of ice cream and two buckets of fudgesicles, valued at $76,000 from John Rogers.
However, Skeete denied the charge when it was read to him by city magistrate Judy Latchman.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Kerry Bostwick, who presented the prosecution’s case, objected to the unrepresented Linden Technical Institute student receiving bail. He objected on the grounds that the defendant might interfere with Rogers, who is his neighbour. But the magistrate nevertheless granted Skeete $80,000 bail and transferred the matter to the Linden Magistrate’s Court, where it will be called again on October 29.
