League leaders Victoria Kings maintained their lead at the top of the East Coast Football Association (ECFA) Stag Beer division one league, defeating Buxton Stars by a 4-0 margin on Sunday at the Victoria ground.
Dewayne Stephen opened the scoring for the home side with a 28th minute attempt. Winston Pompey would then make it 2-0 as he found the back of the net two minutes later. It would then become 3-0 as Pompey sealed his brace with a 50th minute effort.
The score line would then be completed five minutes later when Calvin DeSouza scored. With the win, Victoria Kings moved five points clear of second placed Mahaica Determinators with 23 points while Buxton Stars remain on 10 points and occupy the seventh position.
In other results, cellar occupants Sparta United, stunned fifth-placed Ann’s Grove FC by a 3-1 margin in the opening matchup. Leon Clarke gave the eventual winners the early lead as he netted in the 20th minute.
Ann’s Grove would then equalize in the 50th minute as Jamal Blair scored. Sparta United would then retake the lead 15 minutes later through a Cordel Marks penalty kick conversion. The win would then be sealed in the 80th minute as Jamal Innis netted.
The win now moves Sparta United to seven points while Ann’s Grove remain on 11 points in the fifth position.
