A Lodge man who reportedly attempted to break up a fight on the Bourda mall is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after being stabbed to the stomach.
Joseph Adams, 53, of Princes Street, Lodge was injured last evening around 9 PM and, hours later, was moved to the theatre of the GPH as doctors attempted to remove the long-bladed knife from his abdomen.
According to reports, two persons became embroiled in a fight and Adams attempted to end the dispute.
However, he was stabbed in the process. It is unclear whether any suspects have been apprehended.
According to Jermaine Ifill, an emergency medical technician (EMT) with the hospital, he received a call informing him of a stabbing at Bourda. On his arrival at the scene, a crowd had gathered around the man. However, they cleared and assisted the EMTs in their duties, Ifill said. He added that the police were already on the scene when the ambulance arrived.
Adams suffered one stab wound to the middle of his abdomen along with a laceration on the left side of his face, extending from his ear to his upper lip. Ifill said that Adams is conscious and speaking while his vitals are stable.
Up to press time Adams was in the theatre undergoing surgery.
