Remarkable displays of speed, strength, stamina and leaping ability by their athletes, enabled Brickdam Secondary School to be crowned North Georgetown Zone 3 winners yesterday at the Eve Leary ground.
The official points standings were still unavailable up to press time but the students of Brickdam were adjudged winners ahead of St. John’s College, St. Stanislaus College, St. Mary’s High, St. Roses High School and the Business School in that order.
While the team honors went to Brickdam, the individual standout performances came from St. Mary’s Matthew McKenzie.
Fresh off winning the junior category of the Courts 10km road race, the fifth form student took his talents to Eve Leary and dominated his rivals.
The Running Brave Athletic Club dynamo easily won the boys open 800, 1500 and 5000m races.
The day’s excitement, however, reached a climax with the relays which St. Stanislaus dominated.
Saints’ Ruth Sanmogan and Travis Belgrave, anchored the open teams to victory by wide margins.
The highly anticipated inter zone championships will run off today at the same venue from 10:00hrs.
