Dear Editor,
The recent public exchanges by the captain of the WI ODI team and his union head have been most revealing. Everyone who knows Bravo just a little or listens to him speak in interviews wonders whether he penned those emails that he forwarded to the WIPA head. In the process, he has publicly displayed the greed of the majority of senior WI players which many have spoken about in hushed circles. He has also shown that he has a very poor memory; that he is willing to burn bridges when there is money at stake; that he can be easily misled; and that he is a stranger to the truth.
Surely, he cannot be that naive to have agreed at an AGM to support retainer contracts for 90 more Caribbean players across the region rather than for a select 15 players only, and then forward an email that disputes what he agreed to? Surely he must have read and understood the emails before he forwarded them? Further, how can he expect to call for Hinds’ resignation when Hinds is promoting the interests of the majority of the WIPA membership rather than only the 15 senior players retained by WICB who have all signed off as agreeing to this action? Does he expect the 90 players including Sarwan, who stand to benefit from these new retainer contracts to support his call for Hinds to go? Bravo has surely embarrassed himself in this whole episode and his only saving grace has been and would be to continue winning matches for the team. Incidentally, the team seems to bring their A game to the fore in these challenging circumstances.
Yours faithfully,
Oudit Persaud
