Employees of the New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council recently pooled their resources and donated a quantity of food supplies to the Children of Promise Eden Orphanage located at Smythfield.
Accompanying the ancillary staff to make the simple presentation were Town Clerk Sharon Bacchus-Alexander, Head of the Public Health Department Ackloo Ramsudh and Human Resources Officer Marlyn Henry.
Prior to the handing over, Henry stated that “because we are celebrating our anniversary, we decided to hold a cake sale, which saw our members of staff donating items to be sold and the money that was raised, we decided to use it to provide groceries for the Children of Promise.”
She explained that this is not the first time the council is making such a donation to the orphanage and they hope to make it a calendar event, tying in with their municipal anniversary celebrations. In response to the act of benevolence, Director of the Orphanage Pansy Howell Feday read a message of gratitude. “There is a list of names we have written in a book of persons who are constantly blessing us with toys, food and books. Whether you have blessed us for many years or just once in a while, you have had a part in shaping our lives and our lives are much better than it was before you came.”
The Children of Promise Eden Orphanage currently houses ten children and is run by a management committee and the Feday family of Canada.
