Dear Editor,
I wrote to the Environ-mental Protection Agency (EPA) some time in 2012 to complain of a dust nuisance emanating from a furniture making establishment situated on the eastern side of where I am living.
I received a reply from the agency dated June 4, 2012, complaint No 1173, which stated that the agency had carried out an inspection and noted that the potential for dust nuisance did exist and the proprietor of the establishment had been written to about abating the risk. The agency mentioned that a follow-up visit would be conducted but I have received no communication concerning a follow-up visit up to now.
Over the period, I spoke to an official of the agency on June 7 and August 19, 2013 and also on January 3, 2014 who explained that a follow-up visit had been scheduled. I also spoke to another official on April 25, July 2 and September 24. So far I have received no letter about a follow-up visit. The furniture establishment has increased its business and is making no effort to correct the situation. My whole house is in dust – the furniture, the walls, the clothing amd even the food we are eating has dust. When the furniture machines are not working, the wind constantly blows the dust across. I spoke to a neighbour on the issue and she also is being affected. I spoke to other neighbours but they are reluctant to give their names because their sons are employed by the establishment and they fear of the boys losing their jobs.
I would be grateful if the EPA could take action to correct this situation.
Yours faithfully,
N Persaud
