Laying Damon to rest

Laying Damon to rest: The African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) yesterday held a libation ceremony on the lawns of Parliament Building, where through symbolic rituals, they laid to rest ex-slave Damon who was hanged at that site. Damon of Richmond, Essequibo had protested the apprenticeship scheme and was subsequently arrested. He was found guilty of an act of rebellion and hanged at noon, on Monday October 13, 1834; yesterday marked 180 years.
