Speed ace, Rondell Daby and his Toyota Supra were in sublime form on Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) held its International Drag Race Meet.
The reigning drag race champion with his machine dominated rivals and posted the fastest time of the day over the quarter mile drag strip, recording a hair raising 8.5 seconds to win the Open category.
Daby put pedal to metal and showed no mercy, besting his brother Peter, who drove a Mitsubishi Evolution in the final run off to crown a flawless day of racing.
The speed demon also turned back the challenge of Charlie Henry, who challenged Daby to a race with his 1000cc Superbike.
In the A class event, Suriname’s Bai Soekah racing in a Chaser took the top honors while Chet Singh steered his Evolution to be crowned winner in the ‘B’ Class.
In the C class, Narindradutt Bangar’s Toyota Sprinter was too much for the opposition and he was declared the winner while Nazim Gafoor’s Toyota Glanza was in a class of its own in the ‘D’ division.
Pankaj Ramdeo’s Premio was also in a class of its own in the ‘E’ category. In the F division, Andrew Persaud’s Toyota Sprinter was the Usain Bolt of the day.
During the day, there were a number of exhibition races, however, Daby’s Supra took the spotlight.
