To mark this year’s World Post Day, which was observed last Thursday, the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) has honoured members of its staff and their children who have excelled academically this year.
World Post Day 2014 was observed under the theme “Posts claim their place in changing communication landscape” and was commemorated by more than 162 countries worldwide, the GPOC said in a press release.
For this year’s celebration, it said it honoured 15 staff members with “Best Employee of the Year Awards,” for their outstanding dedication to the corporation during the last year. In addition, it presented bursaries to five staff members’ children who performed well at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations and National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and presented an outstanding achievement award to the top CSEC student of St Roses’ High.
In addition, the GPOC said it would be presenting prizes to the top three writers who participated in its 2014 letter writing competition. The GPOC expressed gratitude to the management of GT&T, the Ministry of Education and the North American Life Insurance Co for their contribution towards the competition.
