Student stabbed at lessons

A secondary school student was stabbed twice by another student at their Woolford Avenue lessons place yesterday during an argument.

Injured is Akaney McKenzie, 15, of South Turkeyen.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he was being treated up to press time, at the Accident and Emergency Unit.

According to reports, McKenzie was stabbed in the thigh and in his lower left abdomen by a 15-year-old student from another school, who attends the same lesson. Sometime during an argument, the attacker pulled out a half of a scissors and attacked McKenzie.

Speaking with Stabroek News, Mc Kenzie’s mother, Pamela McKenzie, stated that she learnt of her son’s injures when she received a call from the police to go to the city hospital. The concerned mother said when she got there, her son was already being attended to by medical officials. She said although he did not appear to be in a critical state, he could not speak because when he did, he was bleeding from the wound to his abdomen.

The stabbing apparently stemmed from the attacker being teased by McKenzie’s friend, Pamela added. She said what her son did say was that he could not have avoided the attack, since he was cornered by a fence in the compound of the lessons place.

The assailant was arrested.
