A travelling production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet will make its way to Guyana next week for a staging at the National Cultural Centre (NCC).
The production, dubbed “Globe to Globe Hamlet,” is part of a two year world tour by Shakespeare’s Globe, featuring a modern retelling of the classical tragedy.
It will be staged next Friday and tickets are expected to go on sale soon.
According to a company trailer, 12 cast members will be interchanging roles in the production during the world tour. They are travelling with a portable set built for the production and it is stored in bespoke trunks that are also a part of the set.
In addition to the 12 cast members, the production team includes four stage managers and has two directors, Dominic Dromgoole and Bill Buckhurst, who directed previous performances of the play in the United States as well as the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe.
Jonathon Fensom is the designer of the play, Bill Barclay is the main composer and Laura Forest-Hay is responsible for additional original music for the production.
The current tour, which was initiated on April 23rd, coinciding with Shakespeare’s 450th birth anniversary, is to be completed in 2016.
After the production in Guyana, a staging is planned for Trinidad and Tobago at the Southern Academy for Performing Arts, which will mark the tour being a quarter of the way completed.
