Mocha, East Bank Demerara residents were in darkness last night after multiple electricity poles fell causing power outages.
One resident told Stabroek News that the poles fell along the Pepper Hill Street and the live wires essentially meant residents were trapped in their homes until GPL crews arrived to address the problem. She said that residents tried for over an hour to get onto GPL through the various emergency lines, but this proved unsuccessful. A resident from Berbice who was contacted by his daughter in Mocha eventually got through to GPL and lodged the complaint.
GPL was finally contacted around 22:00hrs and when Stabroek News inquired from GPL an hour later if crews had been sent as yet due to the dangerous situation this publication was told the complaint was received and a crew would be sent soon.
