Pele FC reclaimed the top spot in the second round of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer First Division League, crushing Beacons FC by a 7-1 margin on Wednesday at the Tucville Community Ground.
Okeene Fraser led the winners with a helmet trick in the 14th, 26th, 33rd and 73rd minutes while Jermaine Somerset, Shemroy Arthur and Jermin Sutton supported with solo efforts in the 22nd, 69th and 85th minutes respectively.
On target for the losers in the 62nd minute was Keith Caines. With the win, Pele moves three points clear of Fruta Conquerors who have a game in hand to 31 points from 12 games. Due to the loss, Beacons continue to occupy the cellar position with three points from 12 games.
Upset in their earlier match-up by GFC, Fraser opened the scoring with a powerful right-footed strike into the roof of the net from within the centre of the box.
The lead would be doubled eight minutes later as Somerset netted through a right-footed free kick from outside the centre of the box, which went straight through the goalkeeper’s defensive wall and into the lower left corner.
Fraser would then made it 3-0 four minutes onwards when he grabbed his brace with a clinical finish down the middle of the goal, after latching onto an attempted headed shot within the centre of the 18-yard area. He then completed his first half hat-trick with a powerful strike into the bottom right-hand corner, after receiving the ball inside the right side of the area.
Beacons would finally pull one back in the 62nd minute under fortuitous circumstances as a flat left-sided Caines cross rolled into the back of the net, after being fumbled comically by the Pele custodian. The conceding of the goal would only serve to ignite the Pele offence further when Arthur netted five minutes later, rifling his right-footed effort from within the centre of the penalty box into the lower left-hand corner.
Fraser then capped off a fine showing in front of the woodwork as he sealed his helmet trick with a first time finish down the middle of the net, following a flat left-sided cross into the 18-yard area.
The lopsided result would then be sealed four minutes before the conclusion of the fixture compliments of a Sutton attempt into the right hand side of the net, from within the left side of the box.
Meanwhile in the earlier fixture, seventh positioned side Flamingo defeated sixth positioned unit Northern Rangers by a 3-1 score line. Ravi Chand opened the scoring for Flamingo in the 27th minute, lashing his right-footed effort to the back of the net, after the Northern Rangers custodian comically fumbled a right-sided cross into this path within the six-yard area.
Northern Rangers would eventually level the score line in the 55th minute as Joel Jemmott netted with a well-placed finish into the lower left-hand corner from within the right side of the box, after the opposing custodian came racing off the goal-line.
However, Flamingo would retake the lead 13 minutes later compliments of a Sheldon Gorrick penalty kick conversion to the lower left-hand corner, after Chand was inexplicably bundled over within the centre of the area without having possession of the ball by his marker.
The win was then sealed in the 79th minute compliments of a Marlon Shepherd first time finish to the lower left-hand corner, after receiving a flat left-sided cross within the centre of the six-yard area.
Due to the win, Flamingo moved level with North Rangers on 10 points but leapfrogged the Kitty side to take the sixth spot due to their superior goal difference of 5.
With the loss, Northern Rangers now occupy the seventh position with a goal difference on 8. The action is slated to continue at the same venue with four matchups slated.
