Dexter Peters, a 14-year-old Paradise boy, was struck down and killed by a car yesterday as he made his way along the Enmore Public Road.
According to a relative of Peters, he had been sent to a shop to buy sugar when the accident occurred. The relatives are uncertain of the details of the accident but it reportedly occurred around 2pm. The driver of the car, a 28-year-old man, stopped and rushed Peters to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
The relative explained that she had not known of the accident until a young man from a supermarket came and told the family about Peters’ condition.
Peters subsequently succumbed at the GPH, less than two hours after his admission. According to doctors, the boy had been unable to breathe on his own and had suffered head injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver was held by police officers at the GPH and was later taken into custody. Peters was a third form student of the Buxton Community High School.
