Dear Editor,
Political organisations and individuals can by their words and actions outside the sittings affect the way members of the public see the Rodney Commission of Inquiry.
Luckily it is streaming live and the world can listen to objections and concerns raised by lawyers during the sittings and how the Commissioners respond to issues raised. The creation of the Commission by the President will go down as a step in favour of Justice rebuking both the former government and its own former presidents for unreasonable delay.
There have been justified protests about the way the President’s party and the President himself have exploited testimony for party political gain. I have not seen any attempt to exploit parts of the testimony of Robert Gates which could question the PPP.
As the new session of the Inquiry opens it is my fear that the PPP may be tempted more and more to demand its political pound of flesh for doing its long delayed duty. This is a very low-life political culture.
Yours faithfully,
Eusi Kwayana
