Ebola preparedness and prevention awareness training has been conducted at the Ogle International Airport, boosting the airport’s standard operating procedures for observation and evaluation of communicable diseases as administered by Port Health Authority which was already in place.
According to an Ogle Airport Inc press release, a team of officials from the Ministry of Health visited and conducted a full Ebola preparedness and prevention awareness and training with senior personnel of the Ogle Airport Manage-ment, airline operators and handling agents on October 17. The team from Ministry of Health was led by Chief Medical Officer Dr Shamdeo Persaud and included Director of Veterinary Public Health and International Health Regulations Focal Point Dr Colin Morris, Director for Communicable Dis-eases Dr Morris Edwards and Dr Mariano Bonet of the World Health Organisation.
An examination of the quarantine facilities for both aircraft and passengers was also done by the Ministry of Health team. In addition, a review of the training and equipping of all the airline related staff at the Ogle Airport was done by the ministry officials, the release said, and this included airline check-in staff, security personnel, airport handling companies, immigration and customs officers, aircraft cleaning companies, cleaners and airport taxi drivers.
Currently all passengers on international flights arriving from Barbados and Suriname, as well as the domestic flights from Lethem, near the Brazilian border are being screened for the Ebola virus and other communicable diseases. The airport is also in the process of procuring a thermo-scanning equipment, similar to that in use at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, the release said.
