Shontel Callendar, the 15-year-old who was burned in the fire at La Parfait Harmonie fire that claimed the life of one person last month, has undergone a second surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Callendar underwent a second surgery to correct damage to her left hand on Monday, her mother Amanda Daniels said.
Callendar told Stabroek News that she is in high spirits in spite of the pains on the burnt parts of her body. This newspaper was told that Callendar, whose condition is stable, has to undergo at least one more surgery before her release from the hospital.
Another victim of the fire was Callendar’s three-year-old niece, Princess Bobb, who was released from the hospital on October 1 and has since returned to school, Daniels added.
It was about 1 am on Monday, September 22, when neighbours heard what sounded like fighting followed by screams coming from the house.
Soon afterwards, they saw the house engulfed in flames and persons running from the building.
Jason Munroe was knocked unconscious during a fight with intruders and perished in the blaze. He had been in the house with his girlfriend Zullina as well as Callendar and Bobb, who were all injured, but survived.
