Left-arm orthodox spinner Raj Nanan wreaked havoc for Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) claiming seven wickets as GYO was restricted for a low total against the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) at the GCC ground, Bourda yesterday.
Nanan’s fourth, five-wicket haul, helped GCC restrict GYO to 82 all out as they recorded their third consecutive score of under a 100 in the Hadi’s World Incorporated/Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) first division two-day tournament.
He was supported by part-time off-spinner Gavin Singh, who claimed three wickets. T. Liverpool scored 29 for GYO.
In reply, GCC reached 197-2, with Jeetendra Sookdeo and Vishaul `Cheesy’ Singh unbeaten on 94 and 40 runs respectively. National player Robin Bacchus made 57.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, the day closed with Everest 216-8 against Police Sports Club (PSC). Chanderpaul Hemraj recorded 51 and was supported by Troy Gonsalves (41) and Travis Perry (24). Bowling for PSC, off-spinner Jason Helyger, who bowled West Indies player Shivnarine Chanderpaul for 11, has so far taken three wickets.
In the New Building Society (NBS) 40-overs-a-side, second-division competition, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) prevailed over Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) in their rain-affected, low-scoring encounter. The hosts DCC batted first and was restricted to 144 all out in 26.4 of their allotted 28 overs with national under-17 players Sherfane Rutherford
and Renaldo Renee scoring 33 and 21 at the top of the order while the experienced Dennis `Bitter Man’ Squires chipped in with 27.
For MSC, Delon Dalrymple claimed four wickets while Shaquille Moseley and Vishal Narayan captured two wickets apiece. The visitors replied with 96 all out in 18.2 overs with Moseley’s 22 being the top score.
National U-15 player Ashmead Nedd claimed four wickets while Squires and Antonnel Atwell took two each.
