Two New Amsterdam teachers were on Sunday morning robbed of a number of items after thieves broke and entered their homes while they were sleeping.
The educators, Alexis Heyliger of St Mary’s Nursery School and Osafo De Santos of New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary school were robbed at their 26-13 Harkman’s Lane home. The mother and son were robbed of electronic gadgets such as a laptop computer, a notebook, a tablet and other items.
According to De Santos, his family was sleeping when the bandits invaded their home. De Santos explained that he felt a presence over him. When he opened his eyes, he saw a man wearing a red shirt in his room. The thief, he explained, had his electronic tablet in his hand. At that point he raised an alarm by shouting “thieves!” and the man rushed out to the rear of the house. According to De Santos, as he chased behind the thief the man ran through the backdoor which was partially broken and headed out to Republic Road.
