A three runs thriller between the University of Guyana (UG) and the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) ended in favor of MYO as action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society (NBS) second-division 40-overs-a-side competition continued Sunday at various venues in the city.
Hosts MYO batted first and posted 170 all out in 34.2 overs with Richard Latiff (40) Narendra Persaud (23) and Shafiek Ishmael (20) being the
main contributors. In reply, UG were restricted to 167-9 in their allotted 40 overs, with Leon Williams top scoring with 34.
Bowling for MYO, Imtiaz Pooran bagged 4-20 while Narendra Persaud and Latif claimed two wickets each
Medium pacer Ryan McCal was UG’s leading bowler with three wickets, receiving support from Omesh Danram, Dennis Heywood and Michael Shalim, who took two wickets apiece.
At the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground, Ace Warriors upset the hosts by 48 runs.
Ace Warriors batted first and compiled a total of 224-8 in 40 overs while the hosts responded with 176 all out in 28.5 overs. Levar Douglas (45), Mortland Ward (38) and Kevon George (31) led their team’s batting after Marcel Mentore (3-33) and Orlando Fraser (2-38) combined to snare five wickets.
Ryan Shun (81) batted determinedly in GNIC’s response but did not receive much support from the other batsmen. Off spinner Delon Azore took four wickets for Ace Warriors while receiving support from Romario Nepal, who collected two.
On Saturday, Persaud, Transport Sports Club (TSC), GNIC and Everest registered victories.
At MYO ground, TSC got past the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by 60 runs. TSC took first strike after winning the toss and scored 283-9 off their allotted 40 overs. Opener Ryan Hemraj stroked 124 (13×4, 9×6), Charwayne McPherson 46 (5×4, 1×6), Sunil Singh 37 (6×4) and Azeem Azeez 21 (3×4). Devon Lord captured 3-53, Samuel McKenzie 2-14 and Dellon Fernandes 2-44.
GCC replied with 223-9, innings closed in 37.1 overs. Opener Martin Pestano-Belle made a scintillating 101 (14×4, 1×6) while Bernard Bailey was entertaining with his 52 (9×4). Joel Spooner snared 3-26.
At Eve Leary, GNIC overpowered the host by two wickets. Batting first, Police reached 197 all out in 39.3 overs. K. Griffith led with 40; Rawl Enmore made 32, Jason McAlmont 25 and Trevor Benn 22. Christian Husbands grabbed 5-42, Troy Thompson 2-37 and Orlando Kirton 2-42. GNIC responded with 200-8 in 21 overs.
Quincy Ovid-Richardson was the principal scorer with 73 not out (6×4, 1×6) and Stephon Campbelle contributed 32. Benn captured 3-23 and Vishal Jaigobin 2-30.
At GNIC, Everest defeated Ace Warriors by six wickets. Ace Warriors made 128 all out in 31.2 overs after Khemraj Ramdeen made constant inroads to end with figures of 5-33 from 7.2 overs. He received support from Riyad Sattaur and Javed Rasheed, who captured 3-33 and 2-27 respectively.
Everest responded with 129-4 in 16.4 overs. Mandrekar Bhola made 58 while Ramdeen returned with the bat to score 43 not out.
