Food for the Poor (Guyana) (FFTP) provided medical services free of charge to persons over 60 years at a clinic held on its tarmac in Festival City, North Ruimveldt on Saturday.
According to a FFTP press release, the Clinic was as a result of a collaborative effort amongst the local healthcare providers under the theme “Caring for the Elderly.” Involved in the programme were the Georgetown Chest Clinic, Diamond Diagnostic Centre, Berbice Regional Health Authority, Cheddi Jagan Clinic and Women of Excellence which commenced at 10:00h and concluded at 15:00h.
The services were rendered by several medical doctors and nurses offering blood pressure and blood sugar testing, foot care and beauty treatments, free eye care examinations and dental care.
Chief Executive Officer of FFTP, Kent Vincent said this was a part of the Giving Club, specific programmes offered by the organization and to which donors also contribute. These include the Angel of Hope Programme designed to assist children abandoned or orphaned by their families and School Feeding and Care for the Elderly. Vincent said, in honour of October being designated “Month of the Elderly”, the FFTP decided to give back to those who are in need.
