Dear Editor,
Why does it seem that we must have either National Elections or Local Government Elections? Why not both together? I know that GECOM knows how to do hybrid elections. I was trained as a possible returning officer some years ago by quite competent people in GECOM for just such hybrid elections, which never took place, because the Government did not perform its constitutional obligation to give the required, long overdue instruction.
It also has to be cheaper to do both together, so if the no-confidence motion succeeds the Government can get some little belated credit for making an economically sound choice, and being rewarded by the extra time it might take GECOM to pronounce its readiness for both.
Yours faithfully,
Alfred Bhulai
