ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC- Former national cricketer, Zorol Barthley, has signaled his intention to step aside and allow new blood to take over the running of cricket in Antigua and Barbuda.
Barthley has confirmed reports that he would not seek re-election as President of the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) in elections carded for next month.
“At the end of the day, cricket is not about me. I am a member of the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA),” the Antigua Observer quotes him as saying.
“I will always be involved in cricket (and) I will always be supportive of cricket and as individuals, you have got to make your best decisions”.
He served a one-year team in 2012 before serving a two-year tenure spanning 2013 and 2014 after the ABCA voted to extend the lifespan of the executive by a year.
“I am just saying that as the president of the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA), I think the opportunity is ripe for someone, maybe with a new vision, new directives,” said Barthley.
“My biggest interest as it stands now is to ensure that I complete a full term, to make sure we don’t get past the end of November and not being able to pull a quorum for the AGM and to support whosoever becomes president of the association going forward. Zorol Barthley will be fully supportive”.
Barthley, 48, has also played for the Leeward Islands Under-19s, Surrey 2nd XI, and West Indies Young Cricketers.
Former executive member and former national coach, Leon Rodney, says he will be challenging for the top post.
