Albouystown-A were crowned the La Penitence Development Group One-Day Knockout Street Football Champions, defeating Masiki Stallions 3-1 on sudden death kicks yesterday at the Cross Street Tarmac in Middle Road.
Allowed two kicks per team in the sudden death round, Marlon Nedd and Shaka Jones were on target for the winners after the scores were locked 1-1 following the conclusion of the penalty shootout. A winner was unable to be found initially as normal time concluded with the scores was locked at 0-0.
With the win, Albouystown-A walked away with $60,000, the championship trophy and one case of stag beer. Masiki Stallions for their showing picked up the second place accolade. On the individual side, Nedd of the eventual champions collected the most valuable player and best goal scored medals respectively.
In the initial semi-final round, Albouystown-A earned their berth in the final after defeating Albouystown-B by a 3-0 score line. Nedd led the way for the winners with a double while Jones netted once.
Masiki Stallions earned their right to contest the finale after defeating Young Shattas by a 2-1 score line on sudden death kicks after penalty kicks and normal time found the scores locked at 1-1 and 0-0 correspondingly.
