Veerasammy Permaul, Anthony Bramble, Troy Matheison, Jason Sinclair and Jonathan Foo have been reprimanded and penalised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) for indisciplined behaviour exhibited in the recently concluded Berbice River Bridge 50-over final at the Albion Sports Complex.
According to a press release from the BCB the named players displayed poor sportsmanship in the full view of the general public and members of the board.
As a result Permaul, a former West Indies spinner; Bramble, a National Wicketkeeper; Sinclair, a Berbice batsman; off-spinner Matheison
and former national T20 batsman Foo were summoned by the BCB’s discipline committee for a hearing.
Following the hearing Permaul was fined $15,000; Bramble, $10,000 and Matheison $5,000.
All three players, along with Sinclair were placed on one year good behaviour bonds, along with Sinclair, who did not face a monetary fine. Foo was issued with a warning letter.
The BCB said there had been an upsurge in indiscipline by cricketers in general at the local level and it will not sit by idly and condone such behaviour from any of its cricketers. The board said it hoped its action would deter any player at any level from exhibiting such behaviour.
The executive of the board noted that its 75 years of existence was built on hard work and discipline and it has produced many players who represented the West Indies and made a difference in the lives of many others.
“Cricket is a gentleman’s game and that must be the focus,” the board said. “Cricket should only unite and not divide.”
Meanwhile, the release also stated that the board is worried about the poor and hostile relationship that exists between the Rose Hall Town and Youth and Sports Club and the Albion Community Centre.
