With the main contenders surviving the tricky group stages, the business end of the Petra Organization/Courts Pee Wee U13 football tourney will get underway today at the Thirst Park venue with the round of 16 fixtures.
Securing a hard-fought win in their final fixture to keep their title defence alive, defending champs St. Pius will look to build on their recent momentum when they face Green Acres Primary at noon.
Also expected to be in the title contention are last year’s losing finalists West Ruimveldt. Entering the knockout stage with a perfect record of three wins from as many games, West Ruimveldt will hope to continue their stay in the event when they tackle Ketley Primary from 13:00hrs.
Tournament heavyweights Tucville Primary will also be in action at 13:00hrs. Bearing the moniker of the tournament’s leading attacking side with 10 goals, the Group-B victors will attempt to seal their berth to the quarterfinal round when they engage North Georgetown Primary.
Event dark-horses and Group-F winners Stella Maris will try to book their place in the next stage when they face crowd favourites Enterprise Primary at noon.
In the other fixtures, South Ruimveldt will engage St. Stephen’s at 10:00hrs while former champs Marian Academy will oppose the ever improving St. Angela’s Primary in the second fixture of the time slot.
At 11:00hrs, East La Penitence will match skills with St. Margaret’s while Smith Memorial will face off with F.E. Pollard.
