Savitri Harricharan who was shot on Wednesday shortly after she withdrew money from an ATM machine, has had the bullet, which was lodged in her abdomen, removed.
She is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital and is still traumatised relatives said.
The 43-year-old woman of lot 6 Tucville Squatting Area. She was shot on Wednesday, just before noon on Robb Street in the vicinity of Avenue of the Republic, shortly after making a withdrawal of $10,000 from an ATM on Water Street.
According to her husband Rudolph Richards, the woman had a successful surgery to remove a bullet that was lodged in her abdomen. He said Harricharan is in a lot of pain, although she has been cleared of any post-surgery complication by doctors.
Speaking about the incident, Richards said Harricharan is still in shock and is questioning why she was targeted. “We ain’t got money,” Richards said, adding, “is cow she does look after.” The angry man said he was in the interior when his wife was shot and expressed thanks that she did not die.
Police officials have since told this newspaper that investigators are currently reviewing some video footage in the hopes of identifying the gunman who made good his escape.
