The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association’s (GFSCA) fourth annual three-day International Softball tournament is all set for next weekend at various venues in Georgetown.
The tournament commences October 31 and there will also be play the following day.
It ends on November 2 with the final at the DCC ground, Lance Gibbs St., Queenstown.
A total of 26 teams will take part in two categories, Male Open and Male Masters. Six teams are from New York, three from Florida, two from Canada and the rest are from Essequibo, Berbice and Demerara.
The 12 teams contesting the Male Open are: New York Softball Cricket League All Stars, South Florida Softball Premier League, Dant X1-Canada, Cotton Field Wild Oats, Parika Defenders All Stars, Wolf Warriors, Regal Stationery, Karibee Boys, Corriverton, Petama Enterprise, Farm X1, and Uprisers. The 14 teams vying for the Male Masters title are: Floodlights, Brooklyn/Queens, East Coast Masters, New York Better Hope, New York President X1, New York Sea View, New York Softball Cricket League Legends, Ontario Softball International, Parika Defenders, Regal Masters, South Florida Softball League, Orlando Florida, Mikes Wellman, and Savage.
The champion team in the Open category will cart off a trophy and $800,000.00 with a trophy and $200,000.00 going to the runners up. The player of the final will receive a trophy while the player of the series will receive a softball bracelet made of gold with a diamond stud. The champion team in the Male Masters category will receive a trophy and $600,000.00 with the beaten finalists set to receive a trophy and $150,000.00. The player of the final will receive a trophy while the player of the series will also receive a gold bracelet with a diamond stud.
There will also be plaques for special performances, e.g., centuries and five wickets haul while two spectators stand a chance to win a return ticket to Aruba. Hampers are also up for grabs with spectators being requested to keep their half tickets and listen for their number to be called. There will also be many giveaways while 71 Sound system will be there, along with Tassa Drummers.
Grounds where matches are to be played on Friday and Saturday are: GCC ground Bourda, Everest, Police Ground Eve Leary, DCC ground, Malteenoes, MYO, and Ogle ground.
The two finals and three exhibition female 10/10 games (2 semifinals and a final between Trophy Stall Angels, Mikes Wellwoman, 4R Lioness and Karibee Girls) will start at 11:00am on Sunday at DCC ground with the tournament and presentation ceremony set to conclude at 10pm.
