Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) hammered minnows Sophia Cricket Club by 10 wickets yesterday to win their first match in New Building Society/ Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) second division two-day competition.

Playing at home, the MSC opening batsmen Troy Lewis and Nicosie Barker blasted their team to 108 in reply to Sophia’s 105 all out.

Lewis and Barker played scintillating unbeaten innings of 54 and 43 respectively while Shaquille Moseley captured four wickets from eight economical overs that went for 15 runs.

After Sophia won the toss and elected to bat, they were restricted by the MSC bowlers who made scoring difficult and the team was eventually dismissed in 33.4 overs, with skipper Zalim Rasheed (30) and Garth Allen (23), being the top scorers.

Left arm pacer Mark Cumberbatch supported Moseley with three wickets while skipper of the MSC side Steven Sankar and Delon Dalrymple prized out a wicket apiece.

20141026troylewisMSC approached their chase in an aggressive mode, completing victory in 8.4 overs. They reached their target when Barker hit Leon Griffith for a flat six over midwicket off of the fourth ball of his second over.

Before that, the more aggressive of the two, Lewis brought up his 50 with a six that exited the MSC ground over the midwicket boundary and landed on the lawns of the Transport Sports Club.

The victory gave MSC its first win after they went down to the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) the previous weekend. It was Sophia’s first loss in three matches.
