Last year’s runners-up West Ruimveldt Primary booked their berth in the quarterfinal round, downing Ketley Primary 2-0 when the round of 16 stage of the Petra Organization/Courts Pee football tourney commenced yesterday at the Thirst Park venue.
Michael Oie opened the scoring in the second minute with a simple finish down the centre of the goal, after collecting a pass from Jason Persaud in the centre of the penalty box.
The result would then be sealed in the 10th minute as Persaud found the back of the net with a powerful strike into the right hand corner, from inside the area.
Defending champs St. Pius continued their successful run by crushing Green Acres by a 5-1 margin. Raymond Austin led the champs with a double in the first and 32nd minutes.
He was supported by Youhan Yarris, Sherwin Nelson and Brendon Solomon who scored in the seventh, 12th and 27th minutes respectively.
On target for the losers was Lebron Wickham in the 39th minute. Also clinching their berth into the next round was Tucville Primary who defeated North Georgetown Primary by a 4-0 score line.
Rayheem Marques opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a powerful left footed strike into the right hand corner from within the centre of the box. Keyon Marques (cousin) would then increase their lead in the 14th minute with left footed strike into the right corner after it took a deflection off a defender.
It would then become 3-0 three minutes later as R. Marques netted his double, stabbing his effort down the centre of the goal from within the left side of the box. The win would then be sealed in the 34th minute as K. Marques netted his double with a finish to the right corner.
St. Angela’s defeated former champs Marian Academy 2-1 in the second matchup. Keyon Douglas opened the scoring for the winners with a strike to the lower left hand corner, after pouncing on a loose ball within the centre of the box.
Marian Academy would then level the scores five minutes later through a Dwayne Bess penalty kick conversion to the right hand corner, following a hand ball within the penalty from a right sided cross.
However St. Angeles would find the go ahead winner in the 14th minute as Douglas grabbed his double with a finish to the left corner, after racing past his marker within centre of the penalty area.
St. Margaret’s Primary overcame East La Penitence Primary 3-2 on penalty kicks after normal time was unable to find a winner with the scores locked at 1-1.
East La Penitence took the early lead as Fabian Boters finished his penalty kick attempt to the lower left hand corner after being awarded the spot kick for a hand ball inside the box in the 29th minute.
St. Margaret’s however would push the matchup into penalty kicks as Makhi Adams netted in the 35th minute, rifling his effort into the roof of the net from 17 yards out, after pouncing on an attempted clearance by the goal keeper.
F.E. Pollard led by hat tricks from Quincy Williams and Makhaya Jarvis, dismantled Smith Memorial by an 8-0 score line. Williams found the back of the net in the third, 32nd and 36h minutes while Jarvis netted in the seventh, 29th and 35th minutes.
Completing the score line was Lesedi Daniels and Bryan Williams who netted in the 24th and 37th minutes respectively.
Dark horses Stella Maris edged Enterprise Primary 1-0 compliments of an Earl Grant 17th minute strike. In the opening fixture of the day, South Ruimveldt upset St. Stephens 3-2 on penalty kicks after normal time finished 0-0.
