A 58-year-old woman was struck down and killed on the Happy Acres Public Road on Saturday night.
Dead is Joan Williams of Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara.
When Stabroek News spoke with the woman’s only child,
she said her mother was on her way home and was being followed by someone.
Upon discovering this, the woman apparently ran to escape the person and was struck down by a motor vehicle.
She was later rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The young woman exclaimed in tears, “my mother was one of the best mother I could have ask for, it is because of her that I am who I am today.”
She had just returned from the hospital mortuary where she had identified her mother’s body.
The family was told at the Sparendaam police station that the driver is in custody.
Investigations are ongoing.
