All of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) matches that were being played around the city yesterday were abandoned due to rain but Police Sports Club managed to secure first innings points against the Guyana Defence Force before that match was abandoned.
At camp Ayanganna in their Hadi’s World Incorporated two-day first division match, Police made 156 all out after taking first strike,
with D. Barker (31) and S. Fazal (260 being the top scorers. Jeremiah Harris and skipper Marcus Watkins led GDF’s bowling by claiming three wickets each while pacer Gilford Moore was responsible for two.
In reply, pacer Seon Daniels continued his recent good by capturing five wickets to wreck GDF’s innings for 119. He ended with 5-36 while D. Singh collected 3-15. Dameon Ross and M. Marques made 30 and 22 runs respectively for GDF.
In their second turn at the crease the visitors reached 43-3 before rain ruined the remainder of the day’s play. Moore had already snared two of the three wickets that fell for Police.
Rain also ended the first Noble House Seafood’s two-day second division semifinals at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground. When play ended, DCC were 134-3 in their first innings and 116 runs adrift of Police’s first innings total of 250 all out in 66.2 overs.
When Police batted on Saturday, Pernell London (42), Rawle Enmore (40), Kelvin Leitch (36) were among the principal scorers while Darson Larose who batted at number 11 top scored with 48. Yekini Favourite and Linden Lyght claimed two wickets each for DCC.
For DCC Sherfane Rutherford made 41, Tevin Imlach and Raymond Perez 24 each while Andrew Gibson and Dexter George were unbeaten on 24 and one respectively when play ended. Vishal Jaigobin took two wickets while London had the other.
The GCA authorities will calculate the preliminary points for both teams and the team with the most points will move into the final.
At the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), the host were denied a chance of completing successive victories after restricting Diplomats for 78 in 24.3 overs. Mark Cumberbatch, Steven Sankar and Miguel Persaud claimed three wickets each for the host. It started to rain immediately after Diplomats were routed.
