A security guard is now a remanded prisoner after being implicated in the shooting of a man during an attempted robbery.
It is alleged that Eon Ambrose, 27, on February 2, 2014, at Georgetown, with intent to commit a felony, attempted to rob Omar Bynoe. On the same day also, Ambrose, of Lot 91 Sideline Dam, East La Penitence, is alleged to have discharged a loaded firearm at Bynoe, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm.
Ambrose denied both charges when he was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.
According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, on the day in question at about 4 pm, Bynoe was in his vehicle at Middle Road, La Penitence when he was approached by the accused and another person, who ordered him out of the vehicle. The court heard from the prosecutor that Ambrose whipped out a gun and shot Bynoe to his left shoulder. Bynoe was subsequently hospitalised.
Grant further went on to explain that Bynoe, who was also armed at the time of the attack, had returned fire at the fleeing Ambrose and his accomplice.
The court was told that the matter was reported and Ambrose was positively identified at an identification parade by Bynoe after he was discharged from the hospital.
Attorney Clive Forde, who represented Ambrose, was unsuccessful in securing his client’s pre-trial liberty after the prosecutor objected.
Forde noted that Ambrose had no antecedents nor pending matters and was not a flight risk since he was gainfully employed as a security guard with a fixed address.
Grant, however, objected to bail on grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence. He also emphasised that “extremely violent” means were used in the commission of the crime, during which Bynoe was injured.
Ambrose was subsequently informed that he would be remanded to prison and the case will be called again on November 10 at Court Five before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who will preside over the trial.
