Kashif and Shanghai director Kashif Muhammad said that the organization was preparing to host their 25th annual knockout club football tourney and was awaiting the installation of the FIFA normalization committee to discuss the staging of the event. Muhammad during a press briefing yesterday at their Vlissengen Road headquarters stated that permission to host the event was sought from then GFF President Christopher Matthias through an issued correspondence.
He noted that a reply from the GFF was received by the organization which highlighted the necessary requirements for hosting the event.
Muhammad posited that since Matthias is no longer at the helm of the federation, his organization will be hoping to have a forum with the impending Normalization Committee to charter a course forward for the event.
He hinted that he hopes a meeting can be finalised shortly due to the fact that time is an issue. Muhammad declared however that the schools tournament will continue in the year of 2015.
The event which is set to feature a novel format of 69 teams from various associations, is expected to commence on November 14th. Muhammad declared that prize money will be given the respective association winners by the tourney organizers. He further said that the respective associations will be the recipients of the proceeds from the initial stages. Initially the event will be played at the association level with 20 teams progressing to the final stages of the championship.
Upon the conclusion of the initial stages on November 30th, the event will then recommence on December 14th following a two week hiatus. It will then officially conclude on January 1st 2015.
The preliminary round is expected to field 16 clubs from Georgetown, 13 from Linden, 12 from the West Demerara, eight from East Coast of Demerara, eight from East Bank of Demerara, seven from Berbice and five from Bartica.
The final stages of the event will feature eight teams from Georgetown, three from the East Coast of Demerara, two apiece from Linden, West Demerara, East Bank of Demerara and Berbice while one team will represent Bartica.
