Northern Rangers survived a relegation battle on the final day of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer first division league, defeating cellar occupants Beacons 4-1 on Sunday at the Tucville Community ground.
Needing a win to leapfrog sixth placed side Flamingo FC following their loss to GFC in the last fixture, the Kitty based side would get off to the perfect start as Deron Bowen found the back through a fourth minute strike.
It would then become 2-0 in the 32nd minute as Darrel McKenzie netted, placing his left footed strike into the lower left hand corner after racing into the left side of the penalty area.
Beacons would then cut the deficit to one in the 66th minute through a Kimba Braithwaite penalty kick conversion to the top right hand corner, following a clumsy challenge on wide man Keith Caines within the area.
However, Northern Rangers would quickly restore their two goal lead three minutes later as Bowen netted his brace, lobbing his effort into the right hand corner after spotting the Beacons custodian off his goal line from inside the left side of the penalty box.
The much needed win would then be sealed in the 76th minute as Bowen completed his hat trick with a right footed strike to the right hand corner from inside the centre of the area, after the ball took a deflection off the body of a Beacons defender.
With the win, Northern Rangers leap frog Flamingo FC to take the sixth and final relegation free spot with 13 points. Beacons for their showing ended the campaign at the bottom of the table on four points.
In the earlier fixture, fifth positioned side GFC squeaked past Flamingo by a 3-2 score line. Curtis Kelman, David Coates and Keron Solomon found the back of the net for the Bourda based side in the 16th, 35th and 70th minutes respectively.
On target for the losers with a double was Sheldon Gorrick in the 24th and 87th minutes. Due to the win, GFC end their campaign on 17 points in the fifth position while Flamingo was demoted to the seventh and final relegation spot with 11 points.
