Forty-four exhibitors have confirmed their participation in the inaugural Berbice Wedding Expo, which is set to debut in the ancient county on December 7 at the University of Guyana’s Tain Campus tarmac.
Businessman Ryan Alexander, who is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce on the venture, told the launch last week that the time has come for such services to be made available in the county. The objective of the exhibition is to foster links and communication between couples planning to tie the knot with persons within the business sector.
Styled after the ‘Guyana Wedding Expo,’ held annually in Georgetown, the Berbice Wedding Expo aims to provide an opportunity for exhibitors with limited resources to market themselves. The exhibition will also showcase the services of the many cosmetologists, caterers, cake decorators, seamstresses and tailors who graduated from the Youth Ministry’s vocational programmes. Further, photography, car rental and event planning service providers are also among those who will be attending the event. In addition, Alexander and his team plan to market Berbice as a wedding and tourism destination.
Alexander, who owns a party supplies store, said over the years several customers have made inquiries at his store about services related to the wedding industry. “A lot of people come into us and are looking for persons who make cakes, do catering, and sewing etc… We believe the time has come to showcase these skilled persons,” he said.
Region Six Chairman David Armogan has applauded the organisers for their bold initiative. He noted that a wedding provides many economic opportunities, which Berbice Wedding Expo aims to capitalise on.
