GPH ambulance in collision

A Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) ambulance and a car collided at the junction of D’Urban and Hardina streets, in Georgetown yesterday morning.

No one was injured in the accident, which occurred around 11am. At the time, the ambulance had its siren on.

Dion Evans, the driver of the motor car PRR 2211, told Stabroek News that he was heading west on D’Urban Street when the ambulance, which was heading South on Hardina Street, dodged another car that was reversing on D’Urban Street and struck the right side of his fender. The collision resulted in damage of the fender, lights, and a section of the door. The driver of the other car subsequently drove off after the collision. The ambulance, meanwhile, sustained damage to its front bumper.

Cyrus Murray, the driver of the ambulance, did not wish to comment. “All I have to say is that I had on my siren,” he said.

When Evans was asked if he had heard the sirens, he furiously replied, “I hear the siren. Yes. But no patient was in the ambulance, was sheer staff members.”
