Cecil Adolphus, 17, broke both his neck and his spine in the accident that claimed his life last week, according to an autopsy.
The lifeless body of Adolphus, also known as ‘Bucket,’ of Lot 99 Sideline Dam, Bagotville, was pulled from a trench at Nismes, on the West Bank of Demerara (WBD) last week Thursday evening after he apparently lost control of a motorcycle he was riding at the time and plunged overboard.
According to teen’s mother, Roselyn Gill, the autopsy, which was conducted on Wednesday, stated that Adolphus suffered a broken neck. She added that his spine was also broken in two places.
Gill said that she plans on burying her son before the week ends.
Adolphus is believed to have been driving the motorcycle at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the trench at Nismes. He was later taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
It is still unclear what might have caused the accident, since no one witnessed the crash. However, a Nismes resident had related to this newspaper that Adolphus was seen riding the bike at a fast rate earlier in the day he died. The man had also stated that the road was filled with smoke from a nearby field, where sugarcane was burning. “You could hardly see anything,” he noted.
