Through the sponsorship of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), the Golden Arrowhead will be represented in nine disciplines at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Veracruz, Mexico from November 14-30.
This and other details surrounding the 22nd edition of the Games were disclosed yesterday during a press briefing at GOA’s headquarters in Kingston.
According to president of the GOA, K Juman-Yassin, who chaired the briefing, Guyana will be sending a contingent of 37 local and overseas based athletes to compete in the disciplines of track and field, cycling, squash, table-tennis, swimming, judo, taekwondo, badminton and hockey.
Phillip Fernandes, president of the hockey board stated yesterday that he is excited to have his female players attending the Games once again. He also stated that “hopefully we can upstage the competition and bring home some medals.”
Similar sentiments were voiced by president of the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) Aubrey Hutson, the Guyana Cycling Federation’s president, Cheryl Thompson, Ramjeet Ramphal and Gokarn Ramdhani.
The Games will feature 36 sports, with most occurring in Veracruz, but some occurring in Boca del Río, Xalapa, Córdoba, Tuxpan, and Coatzacoalcos.
