Eusie Grant, accused of being one of the three men who shot and robbed a Muneshwers Limited employee of $3.8M, was yesterday charged and remanded to prison.
The charge against Grant, of 101 Leopold and George streets, Georgetown, is that on October 27, 2014, being in company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Naresh Raghuraj of $3.8M and a haversack belonging to Muneshwars Limited on Water Street.
Grant, a contractor with Courtney Benn Construction Limited, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.
Prosecutor Michael Grant said the attack occurred at about 4:40pm. He said Raghuraj was heading to Muneshwers Limited to conduct business when he and Grant had a scuffle and he was shot. Raghuraj then let go of the bag and Grant and the others made good their escape, he added.
The prosecutor objected to bail and he pointed to the fact that a firearm was used in the attack and the victim was shot. He also noted the amount of money that was stolen and he said nothing was recovered. He argued that if Grant were released, he might not return for the trial.
As a result of the prosecutor’s arguments, bail was refused and the case was adjourned until November 14, when statements are expected to be filed.
