In what will be a rematch of their earlier group-C fixture, defending champs St. Pius will battle F.E. Pollard from 12:00hrs in the marquee quarterfinal match of the Petra Organization/Courts Pee Wee football tourney today at the Thirst Park venue.
Defeating the Kitty side 2-1 in their earlier scrimmage, the Middle Road based unit will hope to continue their path to a successful title defence as they attempt to build on their 5-1 round of 16 defeat of Green Acres. They will depend on the quartet of Raymond Austin, Youhan Yarris, Sherwin Nelson and Brendon Solomon to propel them to the semi-final stage when opening whistle sounds.
However F.E. Pollard will be brimming with confidence after registering the highest margin of victory in the event to date with their hammering of Smith Memorial by an 8-0 margin in their previous fixture.
Due to the huge win, F.E. Pollard became the event’s highest scoring side with 15 goals. They also possess joint top scorer with seven strikes Quincy Williams in their ranks and will hope he can fire them alongside the likes of Makhaya Jarvis, Lesedi Daniels, Bryan Williams and Tramel McCurdy into the final four stage. Also competing in the same time slot will be the Darron Niles led dark horses Stella Maris who will tackle arch-rivals St. Margaret’s. Overcoming Enterprise 1-0 in their earlier fixture, Stella Maris will require an improved performance if they are to overcome the compact and defensive minded Camp Street unit.
Squeaking past East La Penitence via the penalty shoot-out route, St. Margaret’s will attempt to upset another fancied side and will require another inspired showing from the combination of Josiah King and Makhi Adams.
Similarly hoping to secure their path to the semi-final stage will be last year’s runners-up West Ruimveldt who will tackle South Ruimveldt from 13:00hrs.
Earning their spot in the last eight following a 2-0 win over Green Acres, West Ruimveldt will hope the attacking duo of Michael Oie and Jason Persaud can power them to victory against a capable South Ruimveldt side who edged St. Stephens in their quarterfinal fixture.
In the second matchup at 13:00hrs, Tucville Primary will match skills with St. Angela’s. Eliminating Marian Academy 2-1 in their last fixture, St. Angela’s will have to be at their very best led by duo of Keyon Douglas and Oziah Vieira, if they are to come out victorious.
Possessing the services of cousins and joint tourney leading scorers Keion and Rayheem Marques in their lineup, Tucville will hope the family relations can continue to prosper if they are to seal their path to the semi-final stage.
In the plate section featuring the losing round of 16 schools, Enterprise Primary will face off with East La Penitence from 10:00hrs while former champs Marian Academy will battle North Georgetown in the second match of the time slot.
At 11:00hrs, Smith Memorial will oppose Green Acres while Ketley Primary will match skills with St. Stephen’s Primary.
