-Webster, Deo share lead in women’s category
An exhilarating day of golf at the Lusignan Golf Course (LGC) ended in a close contest as Shanella Webster, Joaan Deo, Seepaul Suknanan, Pur and Avinash Persaud led the field heading into the final day of action in the Digicel Guyana Open Golf Tournament.
When play closed yesterday, Deo with a gross of 94 and a net of 74 and Webster (G96 N74) were the joint leaders in the ladies category while Christine Sukhram occupied third position 9/75 and Juliet Prince fourth 36/78.
In the 0-9 handicap which was the closest contest of the day, Guyanese Avinash Persaud is in the lead with a gross of 74. Trailing closely behind are former national U19 cricketer Alfred Mentore and Rishi Sukhram with a gross of 76 apiece. In that said category, Sukhram is ahead with a net of 69 followed by Mentore on 70 while Imran Khan, Brian Glasford and Hamesh Persaud,
are tied in third position with a net 72 followed by Jeetendra Dhanpat and Papo Haniff with a net 73.
In the 10-18 handicap Canadian S. Suknanan 10/66 leads from Roy Cummings 10-69, Mo Shafie 18/71 Kishan Bacchus 15/72 and Colin Ming and Bholawram Deo net 73.
In the 19-28 handicap the leaders are Patanjalee `Pur’Persaud, 27/60, Mahendra Bhagwandin 26/65, Richard Haniff, 21/73 Dr Philbert London 25/74 and Clifford Reis and Parmanand Persaud net 76.
The tournament was declared open by Digicel’s CEO Gregory Deane.
The tournament which feature players from Canada, USA, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname will continue from 7:00 a.m today.
