The Port Mourant Cricket Ground is expected to come alive today when unbeaten Young Warriors collide with Universal Solutions Bermine in the semi-final of the 2014 Carib Beer T20 first division competition.
The Warriors will enter this match with a clear psychological advantage after they handed Bermine their only loss of the competition thus far.
Their batting will be spearheaded by the prolific Young West Indies and senior national opener Shimron Hetmyer, who last weekend scored a blistering 33-ball 73 against Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets.
Support from his older brother Seon Hetmyer, a former national youth batsman along with Wahied Edwards,
former national Under-15 all-rounder Kevin Ramdeen, former Berbice U15 cricketer Ishwar Singh, former Guyana U19 all-rounder Linden Austin, ex T20 star Imran Khan and Vishal Mohabir will provide the Young Warriors with sufficient batting fire-power.
The bowling department features four spinners; Berbice cricketer Balram Samaroo, Ramdeen, Austin and Kassim Khan who were all destructive in the competition thus far in former while the three-pronged pace attack will rest in the hands of Suresh Dhanai, Vishal Mohabir and Devendra Ramoutar.
Meanwhile, Bermine, since their defeat to Young Warriors in the first round have been on a roll with three consecutive victories thanks mainly to their bowling attack which is spearheaded by former Guyana and Canada pacer Jeremy Gordon who recently gained much success during the Cricket Guyana Inc. (CGI) first 4-day match played at Bourda.
All-rounder Romario Shepherd and Niall Smith who represented Berbice and Guyana at the U19 level respectively, will provide good support for the lively Gordon. The off-spin quartet of Berbice cricketer Stephen Latcha, Devon Clements, former youth all-rounder Joemal LaFleur and Kevin Pellew will handle the spin department.
Essequibo opener Kevin Boodie and former Demerara all-rounder Damien Vantull will return to join former Guyana U15 batsman Leon Williams, Clements, Shepherd and Joemal LaFleur to bolster the batting line up.
Albion Community Center are already through to the final and will clash with the winner of this semi-final next weekend. The umpires for today’s clash are Omadat Samaroo and Moses Ramphal.
